This hybrid plant is created from a cross between Nematanthus perianthomegus and Nematanthus gregarius as indicated in a 1983 publication (page 124, Table 24) from The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens located in Florida [1]. Nematanthus perianthomegus is currently the synonym of Nematanthus hirtellus
